Alfred was the youngest son and eighth of William and Susan Craker's ten children. After leaving Raglan Road School he became a painter, subsequently taking employment at the County of London Electricity Supply Company. He was a leading star in the Bal Masque Minstrels. Alfred was engaged to be married to Mabs.
Alfred enlisted for Naval Service on 13th October 1914, he was 5ft 6žins tall with dark brown hair, hazel eyes and a fresh complexion. He was assigned to HMS Invincible on 31st October and sailed to the Falklands where he saw action on 8th December 1914. Alfred died when HMS Invincible was sunk at the Battle of Jutland.
