The Crafter family lost their three sons during the war. Zebulon was only 15 when he fell down a hatch aboard HMS Warspite at Greenhithe on 21st October 1914, he died before reaching hospital. He is not recorded on CWGC or the Bromley memorial.
Daughter Grace lost her husband Robert Edward Mockridge.Mary Ann's nephew Zebulon Relf also died.
William was the 7th of James William and Mary Ann Crafter's 12 children. He was baptised on 26th April 1896 at St Luke's Church. He attended Raglan Road School.
He enlisted in the Royal West Kents in Deptford and was sent to the Front on 16th June 1915. He was severely wounded on 29th March 1916 and was making good progress but gangrene started in his legs and there was nothing to be done for him.
