Very little is known about Kenneth McKenzie except that he is described in local newspaper reports as a reservist, called up on mobilisation, the uncle of William and Thomas Bray (who are also on the memorial) and lived at 61 Havelock Road.
He married Fanny East on 1st May 1904 at St Luke's Church. He was a bachelor aged 37, occupation fisherman, she was a 38 year old widow, daughter of Joseph Bray. In 1885 Fanny had married David William Irvin in Guisborough, Yorkshire where the family had lived for a time. Their son also David William was born a year later. In 1891 there is no sign of David snr, Fanny and her son are living with her parents in Bromley. In 1901 Fanny is with Edward East as wife (no marriage found) with sons Edmund J (Edward Joseph) East and William (David) Irvine. No death has been found for either of these "husbands".
In 1911 Fanny already says she is a widow, yet Kenneth is recorded as being called up in October 1914 from 61 Havelock Road. Had they already separated by this time? Kenneth would have been 47 in 1914, rather old to be called up and being a fisherman more likely to join the Navy. There is no record for him at the CWGC. Did he die or just disappear from Fanny's life?
