Thomas was the 7th of James and Ann Gregory's nine children. He was baptised on 3rd Auguat 1879 at Holy Trinity, Bromley Common. He attended Aylesbury Road School before working for Bromley Borough Council. He married Mary Ann Gurr on 19th November 1899 and had 5 children.

On 1st December 1914 he joined the Horse Transport of the Army Service Corps, he is described as being 5ft 6½ins tall and having tattoos on his arms. He went to France on 21st September 1915. Due to the terrible weather conditions he had a recurrence of rheumatic fever, which he had suffered 10 years previous, and was sent home on 28th January 1916 for treatment at Nottingham General Hospital, convalescence at Eastbourne and Royal Bath Hospital Harrogate for further treatment. He was discharged from the army on 4th August as no longer physically fit. Following further complications with the disease Thomas died on 7th January 1917 and is buried in St Luke's cemetery.

Two of Thomas's brother-in-laws, Arthur George Gurr and Augustus Charles Cook also died. Also two nephews George William Gurr and Charles Frederick Gregory.

Neither Thomas nor his nephew Charles are recorded on the CWGC register.
