Charles was the eldest surviving child of John and Theresa Adelaide Gregory. He was baptised on 11th April 1897 at St Luke's Church. He attended Raglan Road School. Charles married Ellen Agnes Lee in 1916, they had one child, Lilian Adelaide.
Charles joined the Royal West Kents in 1916 and was transferred to the Royal Irish on going overseas. He was twice wounded, once in June 1917 and again later. In May 1918 he was severely gassed and was demobilised in January 1919. Charles never fully recovered and died in the Cottage Hospital on 13th December 1919.
His uncles Arthur George Gurr, Thomas Gregory and Augustus Charles Cook, and cousin George William Gurr also died.
Neither Charles nor his uncle Thomas are recorded on the CWGC register.
