George was the eldest of George and Maud Crouch's six children, he was baptised on 12th February 1899 at St Pancras Parish Church. By 1900 the family had moved to Bromley where the rest of the children were born. George attended Raglan Road school before taking employment at Welford Dairy Company. George snr died with painful suddeness on Chislehurst Common in 1910 resulting with Maud, as her health was weak, being reliant on her eldest son for support. Their youngest child was born shortly after her husband's death.

George joined up in February 1917, and after training, was sent to the Front in February 1918. He was killed the following month. His mother was granted a small pension of 8s.6d. Per week, until her death in 1932.
