Edward was the youngest of William and Annie Burbridge's four children. His two older sisters had died in infancy. He was baptised at St Luke's Church on 13th August 1899. Edward attended Raglan Road School where he was known as "little Teddy". He was a keen athlete at school, a very fast runner and won many prizes and scored many points for his school at the annual schools' athletic sports. After leaving school he spent two years at Mr Baldock's cycle works, a year with Messrs Steele and Sons, engineers, Hatton Garden, and a year at the Woolwich Arsenal.
He enlisted at 18 and after a period of training was sent to the Front in April 1918.
Edward's cousin Benjamin Burbridge also died.
