Extra details

Archibald was the eldest of Matthew and Lydia's three children. Born in Wembley, he was baptised at St John the Evangelist church on 14th July 1895. Two years later his sister Lilian was born in Norwood and in 1900 Doris was born in Bromley where the family stayed until Matthew retired from the police force c1913. Archibald attended Raglan Road School before taking work as a gardener. On retirement Matthew took his family back to Gloucestershire where he and his wife had been born, however they were back in Bromley at the time of Archibald's death but had returned to Gloucestershire by 1920.

At the outbreak of war Archibald enlisted in the Gloucester Regiment. He was posted to France where for a while he was an assistant instructor in signals at a school there. He re-joined his battalion and was reported missing in March 1918. His body was found and buried in the Doignies German Cemetery, later being removed to Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension.

Archibald is also remembered on Twigworth War Memorial, near to Sheepscombe where his parents were living.
