Extra details

Harold was the seventh of George and Annie Bateman's ten children. He attended St Mary's school and was a chorister at St Mary's church. Prior to joining up he was employed as a gardener by Mr Johnson of Blyth Road.

He joined the London Regiment in January 1918 and went to France about six months later. He was also formerly a bugler in the 7th Volunteer Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment.
