Extra details

Bertram was the youngest of John Edwin and Emma Bagwell's five children. He was educated at the National School.

After leaving school Bertram was employed in the boot department of the Bromley and Crays Co-operative Society. Bertram joined the Royal West Kents in October 1916 and went to France the following March. He was posted to the Lewis Gun section and it was whilst serving here that he received a shot through the heart.

His brother William Edwin also died.
