Frederick was the 4th of Walter and Jane Ayles' seven children. He was baptised on 4th August 1895. His father died in 1904. He attended Aylesbury Road School before taking employment as a gardener.
Frederick enlisted in the South Lancashire Regiment on 10th March 1913. When war broke out his regiment was sent to France on 13th August 1914 but he was unable to accompany them due to a temporary indisposition but followed on 7th October. He was killed three weeks later.
