Percy was the eldest of Alfred and Caroline Golding's ten children, he was baptised on 9th February 1879 at St Peter & St Paul's Church. In 1904 he married Harriette Bloomfield in Hastings where they lived for a couple of years before returning to Bromley. Before enlisting Percy worked as a painter for Mr Hart on the Bickley Park Estate.

Percy enlisted in the Royal West Kents in June 1915 and was sent to the Front on 14th December 1915. On the third day of the Battle of the Somme Percy was reported missing during an attack on German trenches. Percy had gone over the top with his Lewis gun and had been wounded when he reached the German trenches. It was only after the retreat, due to heavy fighting, that it was realised that Percy had not made it back.
