Extra details

Edward was the fourth of John and Mary Elliott's nine children. He was educated at Raglan Road School then employed at Messrs Wright Brothers, drapers, High Street.

A well built young man, he enlisted in May 1915 when only 16 years old. He was sent to the Front in December and died on the third day of the Battle of the Somme. On that day, out of the 617 officers and men of the 6th Battalion who had gone into action 375 were casualties.
