Horace appears on the memorial as Angell H.
He was the second of Frederick Macauley and Annie Laura Ancell's three children. Frederick died in 1909. After leaving school Horace was a clerk with The Capital & Counties Bank before joining the London Regiment (Artist's Rifles). He was sent to the Front on 26th October 1914.
Horace married Lilian Alberta Grubb at St Leonard's Church Streatham on 28th January 1918. Two months later he was killed near Arras, his body was never recovered. The following year Lilian married Charles Straker and moved to Oak Bay, Victoria, British Columbia where Horace is remembered on the District Roll of Honour.
Horace does not appear to have lived in Bromley but his aunt, Catherine Dawson (father's sister) lived at 16 Bromley Common and there was a Frederick Ancell living in Heathfield Road who could be his brother.
His mother, Annie Laura, died in 1959 aged 100.
