George was the illegitimate son of Evaline Dawson. On the 1911 census she states that she has four children, these could be Daisy Isabella Maud b 1891, Walter b 1902, William b 1904 (at 26 Bromley Crescent 1939).

George attended Aylesbury Road School where he was one of the finest backs on the football field. On leaving school he trained as a gardener.

He joined up at the outbreak of war and was posted to the Balkans on 9th August 1915. He was invalided home from Gallipoli, and when recovered was sent to Egypt. He died during the Second Battle of Gaza.
