Extra details

Francis was the youngest son and the fifth of Edward and Charlotte Cornwall's six children. He was baptised at St Gabriel, Warwick Square, Pimlico on 15th January 1896. After attending the National School Francis was employed as an electrician's assistant by the Bromley Electric Light Company.

Francis enlisted in the Territorials in January 1913 when just turned 17. He was 5ft 6½ins tall. He embarked for Iraq on 20th February 1917, arriving on 1st March. Most of July was spent in hospital, possibly with malaria, then in October he was admitted again with dysentery. This left him very debilitated and also running a high temperature. By 13th November the diarrhoea had ceased and he was given a Milk Diet with brandy and egg- flip. On 17th November he was put on the "Seriously Ill List" with an undiagnosed fever. This improved for a day when he was given Champagne but by 21st he was showing signs of double pneumonia and was put on the "Danger List". Francis died at 10am on 26th November 1917.
