Extra details

James was the eldest son and second of Thomas and Harriet Clarke's ten children. He attended Bickley and Widmore School before becoming a grocer's assistant.

James attested on 8th December 1915 and was put on reserve. He joined the 21st Battalion of the London Regiment on 2nd March 1916. He was 5ft 5½ins tall and weighed 120lbs. He embarked for France on 15th June and was reported missing on 15th September.
