Walter was the only child of Harry and Harriet Carter. He attended Raglan Road School. By 1911 he had enlisted with the Royal West Kents and was serving in India. He married Lily Agnes Field in 1913, they had one child.
Walter was posted to the Front on 15th August 1914, he died at the Battle of Hill 60.
