James was the sixth of James and Alice Brooker's eight children. He was baptised at Holy Trinity, Bromley Common on 8th June 1873. Very little is known of him. He married Emma Amelia Davis on 8th September 1894 at St Luke's Church, they had twelve children.

The only reference to his military service is his appearance on the Bromley Absent Voters list which states that he is with the No9 Veterinary Hospital, Army Veterinary Corps, Private 4791. This was at Abbeville on the Somme. He died in Bromley in 1920 and doesn't appear on the CWGC lists.
