Frederick was the eldest of Joseph and Melinda Bones' ten children. He was baptised on 13th June 1894 in Cornforth, Durham. In 1899 the family were living at 83 Clive Road, West Norwood. Frederick attended Salters Hill School from 13th November 1899 until 1st September 1900 when he returned to his previous school at Rosendale Road, West Dulwich. By 1907 the family were living in Shortlands. When he left school Frederick worked for Boots.
Frederick enlisted in The Queen's Lancers and was sent to France on 17th August 1914. Having been severely wounded he was brought home to the Military Hospital in Edinburgh where he died. He was given a full military funeral at London Road Cemetery, Bromley.
