Harold was the third of John and Elizabeth Bond's five children. By 1901 the family had moved to Bromley where Harold attended Raglan Road School and was a choir boy at St Luke's Church. Prior to enlisting he worked for the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.
Harold enlisted in the Royal West Kents on 2nd September 1914 stating he was 19 when only 17. He was 5ft 8½ins tall, weighed 126lbs, had a fresh complexion, blue eyes, and light brown hair. He had a "Buffalo Bill" tattoo on his left forearm and a scar on his right shoulder blade. On several occasions Harold was fined or confined to barracks for failing to follow orders or overstaying his pass.
On 30th August 1915 he was sent to the front where he died a year later from wounds to his legs.
