Alfred was the eldest of Alfred William Davidson and Marian Leontine Oakes's three children. Born in Calcutta, he was sent home to be educated at Thornhill School Blackheath, and after business training he took up a position with a cigar factory in India in 1900. He was about to take up poultry farming in England when war broke out.
After being rejected for war service he was eventually accepted into the Army Pay Corps. He became ill and pneumonia set in, he died at Rosary Cottage, Vicarage Farm Lane, Hounslow, Middlesex.
Alfred's brother George also died.
