Ronald was born on 3rd December 1894, in Harrogate, the youngest of John and Annie Morrison's two children. He attended Wadham House School, Hale before entering Charterhouse School. By the time he left there in 1912 his family had moved to Bickley. After Charterhouse Ronald entered the works of an engineering firm.

When war was declared, he joined the Royal Naval Air Service as a despatch- rider with the armoured cars. He was described as 5ft 2ins tall with brown hair,grey eyes and a fresh complexion. He went to Belgium at the beginning of October 1914 went to Belgium at the beginning of October 1914, since when he served continuously in France and Gallipoli until he returned to England in February 1916. He took up his commission as a Flight Sub-Lieutenant, R N, in June, qualified as a pilot, and went out to France again in December 1916, where he remained until he came home on 5th July to take up a home appointment. It was while on a practice flight from the Isle of Grain Naval Air Station that Ronald's plane nose-dived to the ground and he was killed instantly.
