Albert was born in Minety, Wiltshire in 1875, the fifth of Frederick and Rhoda Baker's nine children. In 1891 the family were living in Level Crossing Cottage, Minety where Frederick was the gate keeper and Albert an agricultural labourer. Albert cannot be found in the 1901 census but by 1907 he was in Bromley where he married Frances Helena Raven, the couple had at four children.
Before joining the army Albert was employed by the Bromley and Crays Co-operative Society. He died in the Military Hospital, Pembroke Docks, South Wales.
