Albert was the youngest of George and Ellen Harman's five children. George had previously been married to Maria Cobb with whom he had four children. After attending Raglan Road School Albert started a career with Messrs Baxter, Payne & Lepper, but subsequently entered the service of a firm of Chartered Accountants in Cannon Street.
Albert joined up in November 1915 with his brother Leonard, and they went to the Front together in May 1916. It was his brother Leonard who informed his parents that Albert had been killed on Boxing Day.
