George was the eldest child, and only son, of Thomas and Milly Harber. He attended Aylesbury Road school before joining his father as an assistant undertaker. Just prior to joining up he assisted his father in his business as a painter and decorator.
George enlisted in the Royal West Kents on 30th August 1914 and was posted to the Front on 1st June 1915. On 3rd October he received shell wounds to his legs and right arm resulting in him being sent home to spend 11 months in hospital recovering. Returning to the Front in September 1916 George found himself in the thick of the fighting to take Thiepval. He was home on leave in November 1917.George died three months after returning to the front. He was originally buried in Boesinghe Cemetery, later moved to Artillery Wood Cemetery.
George's cousin William Harding also died.
