Extra details

Donald was the youngest of John and Bertha Fergusson's five children. He was baptised at St Mary's Wimbledon on 24th April 1892. The family had only recently moved to Bromley, from Rotherhithe at the time of Donald's death. Prior to enlisting Donald worked as a clerk at a firm of slate merchants in London.

Donald joined up at the outbreak of war, rising quickly through the ranks. On the day he died he and another man were fetching water to wash in when a shell burst near them. A large piece of shell entered his left breast penetrating his lungs, he died almost immediately.
