Raymond was the youngest of Henry and Adeline Edwards' six children. By 1901 the family had settled in Bromley. Raymond married Ethel Mary Watson on 25th September 1909 in Maldon, Essex, they had two children, Gwendoline born 1911 in Lewisham and John 1917 born in Carlton, Notts.

Raymond was living at The Croft, Bridgford, Notts when he enlisted on 10th December 1915. He was 5ft 4?ins tall and weighed 126lbs. He was a Drugs Buyer. Raymond was posted to France on 16th October 1917. He was admitted to the No.64 Casualty Clearing Station on 26th January 1918 suffering from influenza, he died 11 days later from nephritis.
