Frederick was the second of George and Ellen Duke's five sons. He was educated at the National School before taking a job at Messrs Crocker, Sons, and Co Ltd, textile wholesalers.
Frederick died during the fierce fighting at the Battle of Bourlon Wood. Initially it was thought that he had been captured, but as the prisoners were later re-patriated, it became clear he had lost his life in the battle. His mother, Ellen, unveiled the World War 1 memorial board in the Baptist Church on 11th November 1923.
He is not recorded by the CWGC even though his mother received a pension of 5/6d per week.
