Frederick was the sixth of George and Caroline Duff's eight children. He was baptised at St John the Baptist, Margate on 17th November 1878. Frederick lived in Bromley with his brother Charles for several years, working as a bricklayer.
Frederick enlisted on 13th April 1916 at the age of 36 years 4 months, he was 6ft ½in tall, he was living at 27 Abbey Road, Bexley at the time. After training he was sent to the Front on 31st August that year. He received a gunshot wound to his arm on 17th May 1917. Frederick was due home on leave in August but was killed by a gunshot wound to his head.
