Reginald was the eldest of Evan and Henrietta Dean's three children. He attended Bickley & Widmore School before going to Beckenham County Boys School. After leaving school Reginald entered the office of the Estate Department of the S. E. & C. Railway. He had been a member of the choir at St George's Bickley and subsequently, for about four years, been a member of the Parish Church choir. He was also a member of the Choral Society and of the C. E. M. S.
He enlisted in August 1915 and received his commission in January 1916. Reginald died on the first day of the Battle of Messines. Having survived fierce fighting that day he was hit by a stray piece of shrapnel late in the day after the attack was over.
Reginald is remembered on his parent's grave in London Road Cemetery.
