Augustus is recorded on the memorial as A M Cook. He was the youngest of Matthew John and Jane Annie Cook's seven children. He attended Aylesbury Road School. Augustus married Mary Ann Gregory in 1900 and had six children.
He enlisted in the Royal West Kents and served with the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force.
His wife, Mary Ann, also lost her nephew Charles Fredrick Gregory and her brother Thomas Gregory. Thomas's wife Mary Ann (nee Gurr) also lost her brother Arthur George Gurr and his son George Gurr.
