Charles was the eldest of John and Louisa Borerís six children. He attended Aylesbury Road school before joining his father in the carpentry trade. In 1904 he joined the Amalgamated Society Of Carpenters & Joiners trade union. In 1912 Charles married Ada Ellen Fullager who he met when she was working as a servant for Edward Smith in Highland Road. They married in her home village of Chart Sutton , Kent.

Charles joined up under the Derby scheme and was called up in June 1916. He went to the front November 1916.
