Daniel was the youngest child and only son of Colonel George Henry and Sophia Alice Robinson. His mother and two eldest sisters were killed instantly on 4th April 1905 during the earthquake in Punjab which killed nearly 20,000 people. His father was badly injured. It is not known where Daniel and Ethel were at the time. George returned to England and married Edith Knowles in Bromley in 1906, he died in Bromley hospital in 1908. Edith moved to Bedford.
Daniel attended Quernmore School before entering Cheltenham College in 1910. Afterwards he went to Sandhurst. In August 1914 he was gazetted to a commission on the unattached list for the Indian Army, but was attached for war service to the 1st South Staffordshire Regiment. At the time of his death the Bromley & District Times states that an aunt is living in Widmore Road, presume this to be Edith Janey Robinson, sister of Archibald Tyrell and Harold Arthur Robinson who also died.
