Extra details

Edwin was the youngest of Charles and Margaret Clarke's eight children. In 1911 he was a greengrocer's errand boy but by the time he enlisted he was a gardener.

Edwin enlisted in the Royal West Kents on 27th August 1914, he was 5ft 2½ ins tall, weighed 112lb, had a sallow complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He embarked for France on the 13th January 1915. Following bouts of laryngitis and bronchitis Edwin left the Front on 9th April 1916 to have treatment at Bradford War Hospital. He returned to the Front on 20th June.

Edwin was reported missing on 4th October 1917 during the Battle of Broodseinde, 3rd Battle of Ypres.
